Why teamstar?

After watching the captain of my team juggling the weekly management, I foolishly offered to help.

There were 3 things I eventually took over…

  • Attendance or selection

  • Match payments

  • Best player voting

Attendance

Attendance in my sport has traditionally been managed by Teamo, Teamer and spreadsheets and email. There are many more platforms out there.

Teamer is begrudgingly used by people who can’t find anything better.  Their voting is not up to scratch.

Teamo is far better in functionality, and I managed to get my team to respond properly to it after 3 years. However, it is more club focused, has many things I don’t need and the 2 things I need, it doesn’t have.

Match Payments

This was the thing that really frustrated me.

At the end of the match, people would be required to chip in 10 or 20 bucks to pay for the umpire.

Usually, the manager would forget to include ground fees here.

A third of your team would mysteriously disappear at this point and the balance would be worn by the remainder.

What ended up happening was some poor souls paying over half a grand for match payments and some very little.

Voting

After watching my team use blank pieces of paper when I first got there, then just add up all the slips at the end of the year, I vowed to build something that was vaguely statistically appropriate.

After my attempt at using Survey Monkey to email the votes was laughed down one season, I reverted to developing the mother of all spreadsheets that pre-printed voting slips after I had got the attendance from Teamo.

These were cut up and handed out and then entered back into the spreadsheet.

The Spreadsheet would add and rank each player’s votes for the match and each rank would contribute to their medal count. This made it fair compared to pooling all votes together.

After getting tired of the spreadsheet and Teamo together, we built teamstar.
